The importance of our oceans cannot be overstated.  Yet they are rarely discussed--in fact, I have not been asked one question about them in nine months as a candidate.  But, as a new report states: 

The oceans are becoming more acidic faster than they have in the past 300 million years, a period that includes four mass extinctions, researchers have found.

Anyone running for Congress should be addressing this threat.  And here is what I posted to my website 6 months ago: 

Global warming has become a highly contentious issue. I believe the evidence is overwhelming that carbon dioxide is changing the climate for the worse. Even if that is shown to be wrong, there is further evidence that the acidification of the oceans poses a serious threat to our food chain.

I point this out not to pat myself on the back, but to highlight the need for voters in the 5th District to ask all of us running in the district to address the many serious problems Congress will grapple with next term.  We need more debates where the four of us are challenged and then challenged again.  I am willing to participate in as many candidate events as the people want.  Our district, our state, our nation, and our planet face many issues--you deserve to know where we stand on all of them.
